Starting from Castricum NS station, out the back and up footpath past ''Huis van Hilde'' and on into the Duinreservaat PWN and climb steps to the outlook point. Continue on down the other side and continue straight on on green route at Helmweg. Follow the sharp right turn in the green route but when it hits Willemsweg and Slingerweg follow Slingerweg westwards. Continue to the Hoofdweg, turning right onto it and follow till left turn near bench CA32 - still Hoofdweg. After the birdwatching hut ''Boetje van onze Kees'' cut across left on the sandy path and rejoin another cyclpath heading north. From this point there is little shade for nearly 2km. Soon you will hit the ''Inlaatpunt De Kwal''. Here the map shows a red route through the closed off area but this appears to be no longer available. Continue up the cycle path till you hit shade again. Follow the red route (though its only marked in opposite direction) past the benches CA12 and CA13 paralleling the cycle path Geversweg. All routes north and east basically go to Johanna's Hof but ideally you want the orange route up the Leplaan. From there return to Castricum station via the green route down Johannasweg following signs for Huis van Hilde. Shortened route ±7km part woods, part heath
Get bus 70 (every 30 min) or 59 (hourly) from Hilversum NS to busstop Lage Vuursche, Groot Kievitsdal which is just to the south of route. Walk up Doctor Albert Schweitzerweg and rejoin route just before the railway crossing. Either walk all the way to Hilversum Mediapark NS (±10km) or get bus 108 (every 30 min) from La Place, busstop Laren, Sint Janskerkhof, back to Hilversum NS. Passes Theehuis t'Bluk

Castricum to Wijk-aan-zee : 11.8 km through dunes
This route heads south-west - there are numerous options - till it hits LAW5 near Gasterij Kruisberg where the way is marked with red/white markers. I marked on the map part of it as 'sandy and no shade' but actually the no shade is right but the sand is not too hard going. Good route avoiding cycle paths except for short sections.

De Gelepad - Wisenttrail 1 : 14.6km through the bison reserve (open 1 Sept - 1 Mar)
- This goes straight through the bison reserve with dire warnings to avoid the animals. If nervous of cattle this is not for you. The path is closed Mar-Sep.
Wisenttrail2 : 7.7km shorter walk skirting the outside of the bison reserve
