⇐ Bread & Baking

These are the biscuits Ann made every Christmas, or when visitors came. For Christmas she made broad rings - circular biscuits with a small circle cut out in the centre - which could be hung in the tree.

Ingredients

300g plain flour, or 250g plain flour & 50g cornflour
200g unsalted butter
150g icing sugar or basterdsuiker
optional slivered almonds
optional egg wash of egg beaten with a tsp of milk

Method

  1. Mix the flour, sugar and butter together to form a stiff dough. Roll out the dough and a floured worktop to approx 5mm thickness. Cut out biscuits using a cookie cutter. For kerstkrantsjes cut out circles and remove the centre with a small circular cutter to form a broad ring. Optionally sprinkle slivered almonds on each biscuit glaze with egg wash. Bake 15-20 minutes in a 175℃ oven. Cool on calling racks.
